Teen Safety on Solys
Teen Safety & Parent Link Policy
Last updated: October 25, 2026
Teen accounts on Solys start locked. Nothing social turns on until a parent links.
Solys is for ages 13 and up. Teen accounts (ages 13–17) are opening state by state, and only where we've confirmed we can meet that state's law. If teen accounts aren't open where you live yet, the App will tell you at sign-up.
How we check age
- We ask for your full date of birth. Anyone under 13 is turned away, and we keep no account for them.
- On iPhone and Android we also use the age range your app store shares with us. If the two don't match, we use the younger age.
- Your birth date is locked once you enter it, and only our support team can correct it.
- If we learn an account belongs to someone under 13, we delete it.
Step 1: A parent links first, through Parent Link. Until a parent or legal guardian links, a teen account can't post, comment, message, join Circles, or connect with anyone.
- The parent needs their own adult Solys account and must accept the emailed invitation.
- The parent also confirms they're an adult. Usually that's automatic, through the app store on the parent's own phone. Parents who accept on the web, and parents in some states, instead confirm with a $1 card charge that we refund.
- One parent or guardian links per teen. Only the parent can end the link.
What your parent can and can't see
Teens always see an indicator that a parent is linked, and this page shows exactly what parents can see. Parent Link is meant for guidance, not surveillance.
What parents control
- Daily time limit: 60 minutes a day by default for ages 13–15 (off by default for 16–17). Parents can change it. When time's up, the teen can ask for 15 more minutes.
- Quiet hours: 10 pm to 7 am by default. Midnight to 6 am is always quiet: Solys sends no notifications then.
- Approving connections with adults: on by default for ages 13–15 (off for 16–17).
- Weekly summary email: time spent and new connections. Never content.
- Pause the teen's account at any time.
What's on for every teen, automatically
- Adults can't send teens connection requests. The only exception is the teen's own linked parent. A teen can ask to connect with an adult, and where approval is on, the parent approves first. Parents are told whenever their teen connects with an adult.
- A teen and an adult can send each other messages only after they're approved connections. Being in the same Circle isn't enough: there, they see only the Circle's group conversation.
- Teens don't appear in adults' people search or suggestions.
- Teen posts can't be public.
- Push notifications stay off until the teen turns them on.
- Ranks and levels stay off until the teen opts in.
- No ads, sponsored content, purchases or gifts for anyone under 18. Teens can't be Luminaries.
- No location features. We collect only your time zone, for quiet hours.
- Report and Block everywhere. We review reports involving teens first.
- Teen accounts don't get the crisis-support feature (the private card some adults turn on).
If something goes wrong
- Someone makes you uncomfortable, asks for photos, or threatens to share your photos? Block them, report them, and tell a trusted adult.
- If someone is blackmailing you, don't pay and don't send more. Paying rarely makes it stop, and it's not your fault.
- Get help removing images at takeitdown.ncmec.org.
- Report to the NCMEC CyberTipline (report.cybertip.org, 1-800-843-5678).
- Intimate images of you on Solys: solysapp.com/report-content. No account is needed.
- In crisis: call or text 988. In danger, call 911. Settings → Need support? is always there, at every age: it lists 988 and the Crisis Text Line, and opening it records nothing.
- We report child sexual exploitation to NCMEC and law enforcement, as federal law requires.
Turning 18. On your 18th birthday the Parent Link ends automatically, your account becomes a regular adult account, and both you and your parent are notified.
Deleting a teen account. A teen can delete their own account in Settings, and we finish within 5 business days. A parent can ask us to delete their teen's account at privacy@solysapp.com (subject: "Parent request"), and we finish within 10 business days. Content we must keep by law (for example, evidence reported to NCMEC) is kept only as long as the law requires.
Privacy. We collect only what Solys needs. We collect no phone number and no location. See our Privacy Policy.
